Here we go again.
I was on the Kamala hype train, then she did her speech at the DNC.
And then she did an interview on CNN. (I know CNN sucks now but she did awful).
Now Kamala just reminds me of Biden. Disappointing, to say the least.
Neo-liberals posturing as progressives for no other reason than to ride the hype train, just to get in the coveted spotlight at the DNC to repeat some ancient talking points that the average grocery store clerk, gas station worker, farmer, homeless person and single mother does not give a single solitary shit about. Namely, the military industrial complex, Israel, and how "America is the greatest country in the world".
The neo-liberal obsession with posturing as the greatest moral good while funneling the majority of working Americans tax dollars into overseas brown people killing, cluster-bomb manufacturing, land stealing machines.
This shit is so defeating.
Are people seriously showing up to the voting booth because they care about how America is viewed to the rest of the world? Why are we, as a citizenry, expected to care so much about being world leaders, or the only example of freedom in existence?
Can we just have some fucking healthcare? Please?
Some rent control, some corporate taxation, some basic goddamn human rights that are enshrined somewhere, and not exploitable by lifetime appointed conservative judges or actual dick-headed leeches on LinkedIn whose entire life goal is cornering the market on the monetization of breathing air?
Can we, for once in the modern world, exist as an example of the worlds most progressive nation, rather than posture as if we are the worlds greatest nation, when the majority of that nations citizenry are one bad accident away from complete destitution?
How about a country whose foreign policy simply picks a side? Funding Israel and Ukraine at the same time makes absolutely no fucking sense. We are funding invaders, and we are funding citizens fighting off invaders. The United States of America is simultaneously arming Israel, who is currently committing an ethnic cleansing of Palestinians, while funding Ukraine, who is attempting to stave off an invasion by Russia, who wishes to eliminate Ukraine and Ukrainians from the history books.
Americas foreign military policies only make sense in the context of America being the worlds gun store. (And racism).
Like, seriously. Come on. Tell me America isn't the worlds Gun Store.
Now tell me that Kamalas speech wasn't simply an advertisement for America: The Worlds Gun Store. She was speaking more to Boeing and Lockheed Martin and Benjamin Netanyahu than she was restaurant servers and shelf stockers and gas station attendants and burger flippers and chicken friers and bartenders. She petered out the same old shit about the "dying middle class" as Biden did, as Trump did, as Obama did, as Bush did, as Clinton did, etc. At this point, to me, it feels like an exploitation tactic.
How many times do you have to hear the same old shit?
Listen, I'm still going to vote for her. I'm going to vote for her the same way I voted for Joe Biden. I'm gonna inhale deeply, plug my nose, and just do the damn thing. I'm not trying to cause leftist or liberal in-fighting with any of this either, but something about all the Kamala hype has been bugging the shit out of me and I have to say it.
The bar to clear is Donald Trump.
Like, legitimately. The bar to clear is Donald Trump.
Donald Trump is the lowest political bar in American history.
Kamala Harris being the first Woman President would be historic.
The first Black Woman President of the United States? Hell yeah.
That being as exciting as it is, breaking historical glass ceilings feels good for about 28 seconds before the reality of US politics sets in, and even with Democrats, the reality seems to be more empty promises, more neo-liberalism, more wealth concentration to the ownership class and less regulation to protect workers. Is she gonna codeify Roe the way that Obama promised to and then simply never did? Is she gonna follow through on any of Bidens campaign promises that he ran on and never fulfilled? Is she going to continue to maintain the trillion+ dollar a year military industrial complex that benefits nobody except 5 companies?
I don't want to speak for whoevers reading this, but I feel like most democratic voters don't exactly expect Presidential candidates to follow through with promises. I think we're all used to the cycle of "make big promises, back away slowly after winning, blame gridlocking and republicans" as to why we can't do things like raise the minimum wage or expand Medicare or do literally anything at all that would help the average person.
I also feel like most democratic voters (liberals) are used to making excuses as to why whenever the topic of military spending or congressional pay comes up, congress immediately forgets the concept of partisanship and suddenly the whole of US representatives are capable of agreeing on something. Every time.
Like I said, I'm gonna vote for her. Obviously.
But I'm not expecting a whole lot to change. Like 2016 and then 2020, I'm just expecting Donald Trump to lose, which I'm getting really fucking sick and tired of, because regardless of his current standing in polling or his policies or whatever ludicrous thing he's done this time, and despite anything that the Democrats do, he is still the main character in American politics.
Think about that for a second. Donald Trump is the Main Character of American Politics. Love him or hate him, you think about and read about him constantly. That's how far American politics has fallen. One half of the political system hitched itself to Donald Trump, and the other half of the political system hitched itself to defeating Donald Trump.
Can I just have some fucking healthcare please?
Just give me some healthcare, lower some prices, get some workers rights, codefy Roe, expand the supreme court, stop giving Israel my money, reel the cops back from killing so many black people.....
And you can fight with Trump all you want.
Just stop expecting me to care about it being your only demostrably proveable quality as a president.
Please, stop expecting me to care so much about clearing the lowest bar America has ever seen.
Please. Stop.
