Roe V Wade, originally brought to the attention of the supreme court in the early 70's, to eventually pass with a 7-2 majority vote, was the result of a woman named Norma McCorvey. Norma, like many others, unintentionally became pregnant with a third potential child. The pregnancy was not intended, so she decided that instead of bearing a child she couldn't care for, she would abort. The case, which she won in Texas, was immediately brought to the SCOTUS by Texas legislature, to try and reverse the decision. At the time, Texas law dictated that abortion was only acceptable when the mothers life was proven to be in danger due to complications from pregnancy.
The SCOTUS decided, with a 7-2 majority, that Norma McCorvey, along with every woman in the United States, would be allowed to decide, with no government interference, that they and they alone, could make the decision to pre-maturely end a pregnancy, for their own personal reasons.
Full stop.
Until 30 days from now.
Yesterday, May 2nd 2022, Politico published an article that contained the entire 93 page argument, written by judge Samuel Alito, who meticulously detailed the frivolous and politically charged reasons for reversing Roe V Wade in its entirety.
Yes, in it's entirety. All the way down to the brass.
All the way down to the "right to privacy" that Roe rests on.
That's for another time.
For now, we need to focus on how this detrimentally this affects women in your life.
If you're a woman reading this, I'm sorry. I'm so genuinely sorry that our country hates you so much, and that you're being wielded as a political tool by power hungry demagogues. I wish there was more I could do than simply write and vote.
When This Passes
When this passes, and it will, women in the united states of america will have less bodily autonomy than a corpse. They will effectively lose the ability to address their medical problems with pregnancy, without the intrusion of government and religion of men, forever.
When this passes, and it will, there will be groups and organizations that will spawn, with the explicit intention of spying on your pregnant wife to find out if she miscarried or not, so they can take her to court for a quick payday. Texas comes to mind.
When this passes, and it will, women you know and love, who are fully expecting the birth of a healthy child, will experience a miscarriage, and that miscarriage will be investigated as a first degree murder in 22 states thanks to trigger laws.
When this passes, and it will, you as a man can no longer rely on pharmaceuticals to abort your decision from the night before. Not that that decision has ever affected you, since telling someone to take Plan B is a lot less draining on the body than actually taking it. Regardless, hope you're ready to be a dad off you're one night stand.
When this passes, and it will, women are not going to magically stop becoming pregnant unintentionally. Women will, however, magically stop having access to safe and effective abortions. They keep posting pictures of a clothes hanger for a very, very, very real and cognizant reason.
When this passes, and it will, the supreme court will have written in stone that the women of the united states are second class citizens, unable to make the most basic decisions about their own body without the opinion of old men, and their god.
When this passes, and it will, ectopic pregnancies will kill women.
When this passes, and it will, pregnancy complications will kill women.
When this passes, and it will, rapists will receive lighter sentences than a woman who aborts.
When this passes, and it will, a child raped by a family member will be forced to carry the pregnancy to term.
Read that again, and again, and again, and again.
A child raped by a family member will be forced to carry the pregnancy to term.
A child raped by a family member will be forced to carry the pregnancy to term.
A child raped by a family member will be forced to carry the pregnancy to term.
Think I'm making this up? Do you think that's way too ridiculous and unhinged to be a reality in 2022 America?
If so, I want you to find the clause in Alitos written statement that imposes exceptions to his rule. Take as much time as you need. Seriously. Read the entire thing. Memorize it. Switch the words around. Find it for me.
You won't.
Because there are none. There are no exceptions.
When this passes, and it will, a child will be forced to carry a pregnancy brought on by the rape of a family member, to term.
There are no exceptions.
